For those of you who were still smirking and wondering whether or not I was really going to start writing a new blognovel or not--and give me credit, I've been going pretty steadily on the Baby Blue Spider--it's time to pay up.
I wrote the first 577 words yesterday.
I really wanted to see if the 'voice' was still there, whether or not I could carry the words, and if I could transition out of the flash RP fiction I had been writing for the past year back into the long-form of the novel. In the words of a famous train: I think I can.
So, since I'm rolling, I'd like to offer up a COVER DESIGN CONTEST!
NEW BLOGNOVEL COVER DESIGN CONTEST
What You Need To Know:
1) Title. "Brass Heart"
2) Setting. I can't give too much away, but imagine something pulling and/or combining from this list:
BRONZE, BRASS, IRON, STEEL, STEAM, STEAM PUNK, COAL, 1920s, PARISOL, CIVIL WAR, PARCHMENT, AIRSHIPS, STEAM PIPES, SMOKE STACKS, CONFEDERACY.
Unique image: American flag but with a solid red field where the stripes would be.
3) The cover can be as simple as a background with type, or you can create a background based on the keywords above.
4) Typestyle: Use a font that would have been popular in the early 1900s.
5) "Brass Heart" will be a Fantasy Steam Punk Romance set in an alternate reality.
How You Need To Create And Enter:
1) Create a 72dpi JPEG (JPG) image in the dimensions of a soft cover book (roughly 5x7).
2) E-mail your cover to me at riggenterprises@gmail.com. Subject line: "COVER CONTEST"
3) You can send as many entries as you like.
What You Get If You Win:
1) Mention in the book's acknowledgments (carried over into the audio and print versions if it goes there).
2) A character in the book. You can choose to have the character named after you, or you can name him/her yourself. Obviously, there will be limitations. "Darth Vader," for example, would not be a good idea. We can discuss it further when you win. You can even decide if your character lives or dies.
3) A write-up about your talents on MichaelRigg.com and the Baby Blue Spider, so if you're a graphic designer by trade, this is a chance for you to get some free press!
4) NOTE: If the name changes ("Brass Heart" is a temporary title), I may ask you to revise based on the new title. Keep that in mind ;)
Entries are due when I'm ready to launch the new blognovel site. Stay tuned here to find out when I get closer.
THANKS FOR PLAYING!
